The National Transportation Safety Board's Most Wanted List

Pennsylvania drivers who frequent US roadways may be interested in learning that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has recently stated that it wants to issue a wake-up call for fatigued drivers. It has placed fatigued driving on its 2016 Most Wanted List for safety improvements.

The NTSB held its 95th annual Transportation Research Board meeting on January 13, 2016. The focus of this meeting was the integration of technology in transportation safety. Fatigued driving made the list for the first time in 2016, ranking within the top ten areas of concern facing transportation within the United States.

Topics covered during this meeting included emerging technologies such as collision avoidance technology and strategies to reduce the everyday distractions faced by drivers. The National Safety Council President is quoted as stating, 'Our cars are safer and smarter than ever before, yet we continue to lose 35,000 people each year in car crashes."

The NTSB annual meeting also focused on strategies to increase overall transit safety, focusing on railroad transportation, the implementation of positive train control, increasing rail tank car safety, and decreasing the use of mentally impairing substances amongst all transportation workers.

Despite the NTSB's efforts in reducing car accidents, crashes may still occur and cause injury to victims. In such a case, the injured victim may wish to seek the help of a lawyer in filing a personal injury claim. The victim may be entitled to monetary compensation for damages sustained in the accident. This might include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages or pain and suffering.
