The driver of a car near Denver, Pennsylvania, was fortunate to survive an accident when he was ejected from his vehicle after being hit by a semi. The accident happened on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, on May 30, and it took place right around 4:20 p.m.
The driver was not ejected during the initial collision. The police have reported that the semi-truck hit the car first, and the car careened out of control as a result. Because of that loss of control, the vehicle plowed into the median between the opposing lanes. It was during that secondary crash with the concrete median that the driver was thrown from the vehicle.
As noted, he did survive both accidents and the ejection, and emergency crews then took him to Reading Hospital. As this time, the exact nature of his injuries has not been released, and neither has his name.
The police did report that the semi driver did not leave the scene of the crash, but pulled over right away to the shoulder. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
Interestingly, another crash happened on the same road about ten minutes after the first. It was in Brecknock Township, and it happened to the east of the first wreck by about three miles.
Ejections are often deadly in car accidents, and even those who survive can need extensive medical care. They could also have life-changing injuries that will never fully heal. As such, anyone injured in this type of accident needs to know all of his or her legal options.
