Man sues in Pennsylvania court over fireworks injury

People are injured in Pennsylvania every day. Fortunately, people are seriously hurt far less often. Dangerous jobs or situations, such as construction work or winter sports, are statistically more likely to cause a catastrophic injury. But carelessness by others may cause an injury or illness that victims need financial help to recover.

A new personal injury lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for Western Pennsylvania seeks financial damages after a man lost vision in one eye following a fireworks accident. The plaintiff alleges that a firework launched from a tube struck his face, causing serious injuries including the permanent loss of the use of his eye.

The defendant apparently brought the fireworks from out of state and set them off during a social gathering on a private property. The lawsuit claims that the defendant did not have the permission of the owner when he launched the projectile near an inhabited home, risking the safety of nearby people. The suit also claims the defendant was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The victim of the injury claims at least $2 million in compensation for the pain and loss of vision caused by the fireworks, which may have had damage that prevented their safe launch. The suit alleges negligence on behalf of the person who brought and launched the projectile.

Victims of other people's negligent or careless behavior may seek financial damages to assist with recovery from injuries. An attorney can help victims and their families work out the best way to respond to an injury.
