A suspected drunk motorist kills 1 in Beaver County

A suspected drunk motorist is believed to have caused a deadly head-on crash in Beaver County on the afternoon of Oct. 10.

Pennsylvania State Police were summoned the scene of a crash near the intersection of Langham Drive and Lincoln Highway (Route 30) just after 4:30 p.m. on that fateful day. It was upon their arrival there in Greene Township that police officers discovered the mangled mess left behind by two vehicles that had collided into each other.

Paramedics immediately started rendering aid to the two motorists. They discovered that one of the drivers, a 33-year-old Wellsville, Ohio, resident, was critically wounded in the crash. They quickly moved him to an awaiting ambulance where he was whisked away to an area hospital. He sadly perished on his way there.

They determined that the other motorist involved in the crash was a 36-year-old Chester, West Virginia, resident. She suffered serious injuries in the incident. She was taken to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian for additional treatment.

Police officers who remained behind investigating the crash determined that the female motorist had been traveling westbound along Route 30 at a high rate of speed in the moments before the crash occurred.

She was reportedly seen crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic just moments before striking the male victim’s car head-on, killing him. A police spokesperson later announced that they believe that the motorist who caused the Beaver County crash may have been intoxicated at the time it occurred.

Motorists who are intoxicated often experience decreased awareness of their surroundings and delayed response times. This is why drunk driving crashes often involve a driver speeding, crossing into oncoming traffic and engaging in other behaviors that are sure to cause deadly results.
